Announcing a new Fellowship to be offered in 2011!
Research proposals will be accepted in Fall, 2010 for the new 2011 AADR Sjögren’s Syndrome Foundation Student Fellowship. This Fellowship is supported by the Sjögren’s Syndrome Foundation (SSF) and is offered to encourage research in the field of Sjögren’s Syndrome.
Founded in 1983, the SSF provides patients with practical information and coping strategies that minimize the effects of Sjögren's syndrome. In addition, the Foundation is the clearinghouse for medical information and is the recognized national advocate for Sjögren's syndrome. The Fellowship consists of a stipend of $4,000. Funds are not to be used to pay indirect, or institutional overhead costs.
The recipient will be announced at the 89th General Session & Exhibition of the IADR and 40th Annual Meeting of the AADR in San Diego, Calif., March 16-19, 2011.
Eligibility:
Awards are open to both graduate and undergraduate students working towards a DDS, DMD, or PhD and are enrolled in an accredited institution within the U.S. Students must be sponsored by a faculty member at that institution. The Fellowship must be utilized between July 2011 and June 2012
Candidates MUST be AADR members.
Review:
The AADR Fellowships Committee will coordinate review of the proposals. The Committee will include an expert in Sjögren’s selected by the Foundation. Each proposal will be evaluated on its scientific merits in a manner similar to that used for NIDCR grants. Awards will be made on the basis of creativity of the project, its feasibility, and its potential significance to Sjögren’s syndrome research.

A complete application package includes:
Section 1 — Application Face Page:
Provide Name, Title of Research Project, Proposed Research Location, Proposed Dates of Project, Address, E-mail
Section 2 — Abstracts for the Research Proposal:
Provide a maximum of 150 words.
Section 3 — NIH Biosketch: Do not exceed 4 pages.
Provide Biosketch for applicant and faculty sponsor.
Section 4 — Research Proposal (Cannot be longer than 8 pages pdf or 2800 words).

List objectives, describe what the research is intended to accomplish and the hypothesis to be tested.
B. Background and Significance
C. Preliminary Data (if any)
D. Materials and Methods, including statistical management of data
E. Literature Cited
F. Resource Information. Facilities and equipment to be used for research project
G. Other support for applicant and sponsor
H. Recombinant DNA, Recombinant DNA Molecules:
Indication that your project adheres to the current NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant DNA Molecules.
Section 5 — Budget
Provide a brief estimate of budget items and amounts for the $4,000 Fellowship.
Section 6 — Letter of Recommendation from Proposed Supervisor:
Each application must be accompanied by a recommendation letter from the applicant's sponsor, indicating the dental school's and the sponsor's support of the proposed research. The sponsor's letter must indicate that the proposal is primarily the work of the student.
Section 7 — (if applicable) If utilizing Human subjects or Vertebrate Animals:
Provide documentation that your project has been approved by your Institutional Review Board.

Student potential
Experience of mentor
